MOMENTS OF TRUTH: MY DAYS WITH ACTING
It was a 'walking down memory lane' moment on 3rd June, Saturday in Film & Television Institute of India when over 20 actors of yesteryears--students of legendary acting guru Sh Roshan Taneja-- came together for the release of Taneja ji's much-awaited biography MOMENTS OF TRUTH: MY DAYS WITH ACTING.
Sh Taneja was presented a designed-for the-occassion silk stole, carrying FTII logo and Wisdom Tree insignia. Sh Shatrughan Sinha honored him with a Puneri pagdi.The 90-minute show was compered by Tom Alter (Head,Dept of Acting,FTII) who in his inimitable style also read aloud the 3-page foreword to the book, written by Ms Shabana Azmi .
Sh Shatrughan Sinha, Actor-MP and Sh Subhash Ghai,eminent film maker recalled their life journey, from school days to FTII student days under 'Dronacharya' Taneja saab's tutelage. Roshan Taneja was HoD Acting for 13 years in FTII,from 1963-1976. Jaya Bachchan, Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri,Danny Denzongpa and many others studied at FTII under him. 13 actors who trained under him won National Awards.
Sh Taneja studied Acting from the prestigious New York Film School,and has been teaching Acting non-stop for last 53 years ! He's now 86. Late actor Om Puri, also a student of Sh Taneja, was also fondly remembered. His wife Nandita Puri and son Ishaan announced that the newly-formed Om Puri Foundation intends to initiate Om Puri Scholar Award for the most deserving student at FTII.
To mark the occassion of Roshan Taneja felicitation, Sh Shatrughan Sinha announced a new GURU VANDANA scholarship of Rs 50,000/- for Acting Dept and also presented a cheque of Rs 50,000/- towards Sonakshi Sinha Scholarship for any female acting student coming from economically challenged background.
The felicitation of Sh Roshan Taneja is the first in the GURU VANDANA series under which living legends of cinema associated with FTII will be honoured by the Institute.
